Coatepec is an ideal location for your Spanish language immersion experience in Mexico. This is an almost undiscovered region of Mexico filled with lush green coffee plantations, raging rivers, colonial towns and majestic ruins. The State of Veracruz has a rich history, physical beauty, artistic legacy and an astounding variety of climate, ranging from the hot humid tropics to the high mist shrouded rain forests. Our Coatepec Spanish Program is designed to encourage learning through immersion into the culture. The colonial history and culture of Mexico come alive by visits to historic sites; rich with culture, cobblestone streets, stone walls adorned with bougainvillea, serene courtyards and church bells ringing from pink towers.

In Coatepec, a Colonial town of about 60,000 located just 15 minutes from bustling Jalapa, students stay in a lush centrally located eco-lodge, La Cuesta de los Pájaros. This newly opened facility sits in the middle of 4 acres covered with old growth trees, ferns, bromeliads, orchids, coffee and other flowering plants visited by beautiful butterflies and exotic birds. The springs provide the water to maintain this paradise with its nature trails, bird watching lookouts, and quiet corners tucked away for silence and meditation.

La Cuesta de Los Pájaros consists of a main lodge with a library, dining room, game room, and outdoor covered deck. Each suite has a living room and bedroom decorated with hand-woven textiles, colorful hand painted ceramic tile, comfortable beds with feather pillows.

By living together in small groups we create an environment in which you are guided continuously in using Spanish on an everyday, casual basis. The staff speaks only Spanish and you assume the responsibility of using Spanish while participating in the daily living activities. These small groups allow for the individual attention and care that fosters maximum learning.

Two meals a day, from Monday to Saturday, are offered on the VISTAS campus and comprise of full breakfast and a typical large mid-day meal or dinner. Meals other than those indicated are not included.
