Testimonials
" My wife and I decided when we retired that it was time
to make a commitment if we were ever going to really learn to speak
Spanish. I looked at a number of offerings on the internet but settled
upon Vistas for 2 reasons: 1) we did not have to live with a family
and 2) it appeared to be a very rich approach to learning. My daughter
who is in the field of teaching language verified that the approach
described fit the best research for language learning that she knew
about.
Our classes were made of some classroom foundation and practice and
about when we thought we could not stand more, we went each day on an
outing to learn in the natural environment. To this day, when remembering
the names of vegetables, for example, we picture them in the market
where our teacher took us. Cooking lessons and outings to local markets,
museums and restaurants rounded out the learning. While we were having
a great travel experience, we sometimes worried that we were not really
learning a lot because we were not feeling 'stressed enough.' However,
when the 2 weeks were over we were and continue to be amazed at what
we know, what we can read and understand and the great foundation in
Spanish we acquired in just 2 weeks. Our instructor was extremely skilled and rapidly adapted her approach
to our individual styles and capacities. Just when one of us felt I
can't go on, she changed direction and refreshed us. The anxiety and
dread at putting myself into a new learning situation, anticipating
daily frustration and embarrassment, was gone in the first day. This
experience is not just one of learning a language but of being introduced
to a culture as well. We plan to return for another, advanced session.
